My style of photography is relaxed and very informal. There are many beautiful gardens and bush settings in our district; you may choose a favourite location of yours, or leave it up to me to choose the most appropriate place. Alternatively, the session can take place in your own home. The best location is simply wherever you and your family feel most comfortable.
As a mother of four children I am aware that when working with infants and children it is very important to be flexible, so I’m happy to work within your routine as much as possible. I completely understand that babies need feeding and cuddling, toddlers need the freedom to explore and older kids need the chance to warm up to a new person. I promise your childs meltdown, accidents or temper tantrums won’t faze me at all, and I’ll happily just go with the flow.
Prior to the day of the session we’ll chat about your ideas and expectations of the images you would like to receive, and I’ll be happy to offer any advice on clothing, props etc. I always suggest that any props used in the session should be things that have special meaning, or at least belong to your family. Using your own things helps to create a far greater connection to your photographs and this becomes even more important as the years go by. Adored teddies, favourite storybooks, beloved dollies or toy trucks are all wonderful things to include in your portraits. Even old toys belonging to parents or grandparents make it extra special!
I don’t place any time limits on the session – the average session involving children can take about an hour, however this will obviously vary due to your childs mood on the day.
Newborn sessions can take up to 3 hours. It sounds like such a long time, but it seems to fly past! This allows for plenty of time for feeding, nappy changes and rests so we get those gorgeous sleepy poses.
If you are expecting a new baby, please book your session as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. This way I can pencil you in for an approximate date to be confirmed once bub arrives. Keep in mind that newborn sessions are best done within their first three weeks, as this is when they are still in that gorgeous squishy, sleepy stage and we’re more likely to achieve the beautiful poses you have in mind.
Of course your new baby will be the feature of a Newborn session, but parents and older siblings are welcome to join in for a few shots too.
When it comes to children and babies, patience is the key to capturing perfect images, so I guarantee you’ll never feel rushed during your session.
Within two to three weeks of your session, your collection will be beautifully edited and ready to view in a private online gallery. As soon as it’s ready, I’ll email you a link and a password to access your gallery.
You can then relax and enjoy browsing through your images at your own leisure. Your gallery will be online for one week, and once you’ve decided on your favourites, you may call me to arrange your prints.
If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask!
